Along with color I approach every piece with an underlying idea for a story. Whether it be inspired by different cultures, the current state of affairs in the world, different pieces/artists, or site specific details. I like to start somewhere outside of “art” per say, maybe with a book, pictures, a news story, movie, etc. Then, I’ll conduct a heavy amount of research, both written and visual until I am able to paint a clear picture in my head. After this I’ll put pencil to paper and sketch out my ideas while playing around with the colors until I’ve settled on the best way to approach the final piece. With murals my process is slightly different. I draw inspiration from the same things, but I always have a picture of the proposed wall at my disposal along with it’s dimensions. After I get an idea of the piece’s topic I’ll try and create a style for the piece that follows the general flow and shape of the wall. Next I’ll search through and alter many corresponding images into a digital “rough sketch” of the idea. Lastly I’ll make everything to scale and either go in digitally or physically to create a final piece.
My name is Lawrence Mazzotti and I am an experienced muralist who also specializes in architecture and film. I've never taken formal art classes but through my high school years as a homeschooler I was given the freedom to study the history of specific art movements and the techniques needed to create and develop pieces. It also gave me the chance to study films with my dad, a cinema studies graduate from the University of Bologna. I graduated high school in the summer of 2021 and soon after was accepted to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago on a SAIC Creative Honors Scholarship. I am currently working from home on new commissions along with more college applications to schools of interest. In my life my greatest passion is soccer which is something you must know to understand me as a person, but in recent years I have developed my work in art to a level that I am happy to consider as another career path along with the beautiful game.
